‘Crazy About One Direction’ Documentary Causes Twitter Outrage
Hands up, who watched the ‘Crazy About One Direction’ documentary last night? We did and we’ll be honest, after seeing it, we kind of wish we didn’t bother tuning in!
The one-off programme aired on Channel 4 at 10pm and it definitely showed the ‘craziness’ of some One Direction fans in a very negative light. Directioners didn’t react well to it but who can blame them? The documentary showed one girl who had got braces simply because Niall had them and another who literally stayed outside Zayn's hotel room whilst he was asleep.
Lots took to Twitter to express their outrage at the show and before it had even finished, ‘#ThisIsNOTUs’ was trending worldwide on the social networking site. It’s still one of the top trends this morning!
There are even rumours now circulating the internet claiming that at least 14 ‘Larry shippers’ have commit suicide. We don’t know how accurate these rumours are but we find them highly unlikely to be true and hope that it’s just another Twitter hoax!
For those who of you who don’t know what a ‘Larry shipper’ is, it’s someone who believes that Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson are or should be in a romantic relationship together.
As well as highlighting the ‘Larry’ aspect of One Direction fandom, ‘Crazy About One Direction’ also showed fans stalking the boys in hotels and camping overnight for concert tickets.
We even saw some fans talk about sending death threats to Taylor Swift because she ‘broke Harry’s heart’ and didn’t treat him ‘right’ while they were dating.
It seems like the programme was out to humiliate the fans rather than show how dedicated they are as supporters of the boys.
Some of the girls in the documentary were as young as 14 and exposure in this manner can’t be good for them. We wonder if their parents knew the programme was going to portray the girls in the way it did.
So what do One Direction think about the documentary? We don’t know if they actually watched it but band member Liam Payne took to Twitter this morning and tweeted: “Just so all of you know we love you guys and we know how dedicated you are and tbh we can't believe it that you gus spend all you time on us.
"We couldn't give a f*ck what any documentary says there dramatised for entertainment and full of bullsh*t anyway.”
It doesn’t look like the ‘Crazy About One Direction’ controversy is going to die down anytime soon though so we’re sure you’ll hear more about it over the next few days.
One Direction recently released ‘Best Song Ever’ and their forthcoming movie ‘This Is Us’ will hit cinemas on the 29th August.
