Supernatural Celebrates 200 Episodes – But What’s Kept The Flame Alive?

It's not very often that a TV show makes us feel like proud parents but that's exactly how we feel about Supernatural right now; the programme celebrated its 200th episode this week and we couldn't be more thrilled!

Over the years, Supernatural has proven time and time again why it really is one of the best shows on TV and the fact that it's now on its tenth season speaks for itself. Nowadays, TV shows struggle to make it to a third or fourth season so it's an incredible achievement for Supernatural to reach the epic 200th episode milestone.

The plot itself is, of course, a key reason as to why Supernatural has been so successful. Whether Sam and Dean are investigating suicidal teddy bears or on a mission to close the gates of Hell, the show always seems to hit the nail on the head by being a perfect mixture of both horror and comedy. Never before has a programme left us in such tears of laughter and sadness; sometimes all in the space of one episode. We're sure you'd agree right?

Aside from the storyline, we'd say that the chemistry between brothers Sam and Dean Winchester (both on and off screen) is another major reason for the show's longevity. The casting of the gorgeous Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki couldn't have been more impeccable and the fact that they've both stuck around for all ten seasons goes to show how much they love working with each other. Recurring characters such as Castiel (Misha Collins), Crowley (Mark Sheppard) and Bobby (Jim Beaver) have also played a huge part in the show's success.

And how could we forget the monsters and villains? The special effects team have created some genuinely terrifying enemies for the boys to face and we love that some of them have actually been based on real myths and folklore. We've seen everything from werewolves and vampires to killer clowns and Lucifer himself.

Speaking about the show's ongoing success, Jensen Ackles said; "I want to give a sincere and special thanks to all of those who helped "Supernatural" reach 200 episodes. Your love, support, and contribution (however big or small) to this show has been inspirational to a magnitude I could have only dreamed of. I am deeply thankful."

Jared Padalecki also posted the following message on his official Twitter account; "Thank you #SPNFamily for making this episode, and this SHOW, possible. I love y'all dearly, and I hope you liked the episode. #SPN200"

Isn't that nice? Without the fans, ten seasons wouldn't have been possible so it's lovely to see such messages of appreciation from the cast. We definitely appreciate the hard work put in by Supernatual's cast and crew.

Supernatural has become much more than just a cult TV show. It's inspired people to fight their inner demons and fans attend dedicated Supernatural conventions all over the world. We're particularly excited about Aslyum 14; a convention set to take place in Birmingham next May. Approximately 2,000 fans will be at the event and special guests attending include: Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard, Alaina Huffman and Curtis Armstrong.

Despite conventions taking place every year, Supernatural doesn't actually have a UK home at this moment in time. Sky Living dropped the programme from their channel in March but we're certain that viewing figures would have been much higher if there wasn't such a delay in broadcasting new episodes over here. There's definitely interest though so if you're a Supernatural fan in the UK, make sure you sign this petition here.

Without giving away any major spoilers, the show's 200th episode is about Supernatural: The Musical. From start to finish, it's obvious that the story has been dedicated to fans and you can download some songs from the adventure here on iTunes. The choral version of 'Carry On My Wayward Son' gives us goosebumps all over.

The very first episode of Supernatural premiered back in 2005 and nine years later, we're happy to see that it's still being made today. Long may it continue. Here's to another 200 episodes, carry on my wayward show!
