OnePopz’s Top 10 Avril Lavigne Singles – Which Are Her Best Damn Songs?
Hey hey you you! We hope you love Avril Lavigne as much as us because we're about to list our top 10 Avril singles!
The pop punk princess from Canada has released some amazing tracks over the past 12 years so we wouldn't be surprised if a greatest hits collection was on the cards soon. Can you imagine how perfect that'd be?Avril first rose to fame in 2002 with her smash-hit single 'Complicated' and since then; she's sold over 35 million albums worldwide. Impressive right? Some artists can only dream of selling that many records!
Earlier this week, we posted here that Avril and Miley had posted a funny Instagram video play-fighting. As a result, we listed our top 10 Miley Cyrus singles here and now it's Avril's turn to get the same treatment!
We start off our list of incredible tracks with...
10) Wish You Were Here
Damn, damn, damn! We wish Avril was here in the United Kingdom!
'Wish You Were Here' kicks off our list of favourite Avril singles. The emotional ballad is all about missing a loved one and its highest chart position was number 54 in Belgium. It deserved to chart so much higher.
It's a beautiful song and the music video compliments it perfectly. It's had over 180 million views on Youtube and in the video, Avril sets fire to a flower and even cries actual real tears. Check it out below!
9) What The Hell
'What The Hell' skates in at number nine on our list!
The catchy upbeat track is all about having fun and not taking life too seriously. It was the lead single from 'Goodbye Lullaby' and peaked at number 11 on the Billboard chart in America.
Interestingly, the video was actually filmed in 3D and special screenings of it were actually shown at certain events. Avril causes the usual mischief in the video and even hijacks a car; what the hell?!
8) Don't Tell Me
Please don't tell us you've never heard of this awesome Avril Lavigne single before!
'Don't Tell Me' was the lead single from Avril's second album 'Under My Skin' and it's all about being strong and not giving into pressure from certain guys. It charted at number 5 in the UK singles chart.
The music video reflects the lyrics of the song and it sees Avril follow her boyfriend around the streets of Los Angeles. She's finally sees his true colours though and realises that she's actually better off without him!
7) Smile
Avril is definitely one of the reasons why we smile!
Her music makes us super happy and this feel-good song is about a guy who always made her feel like that too. 'Smile' under-performed in most countries but it did make to number 4 in Belgium's singles chart.
In the music video, we see Avril decorate a plain white room with spray paint. There's also several scenes where she heals people's broken hearts by taking shattered glass away from them; it's super cute!
6) Rock N Roll
Avril lets us know that she's still 'Rock N Roll' with this pop punk track!
The lyrics of the song highlight the fact that she just wants to have fun and that she really doesn't care about her reputation. 'Rock N Roll' made it made it to number one in both South Korea and Taiwan.
Out of all of Avril's music videos, it's definitely her craziest and we couldn't stop laughing the first time we saw it. It's a post-apocalyptic rocked out comic book adventure which sees Avril fight off a bearshark!
5) When You're Gone
'When You're Gone' comes in at number five on our list!
The poignant ballad is about the emotions of missing someone special and it's a song that many people said they relate with. It charted at number 3 in the United Kingdom and went platinum in Australia and Brazil.
Heartbreaking is a word that we would definitely use to describe the music video. It tells the story of three different relationships which have either been destroyed or are at risk of falling apart!
4) Girlfriend
It's only number four in our list but 'Girlfriend' is probably Avril's most successful single ever!
The catchy track is super upbeat and it's about having a crush on someone who's already in a relationship. To help make the song a global hit, Avril even recorded the track in eight different languages.
At the time of its release, the music video for 'Girlfriend' soon broke records and it became the most-watched video on Youtube. Avril plays three different characters in the promotional film which is full of action!
3) Complicated
Why is choosing our favourite Avril singles so complicated? Probably because they're all so amazing!
'Complicated' was Avril's debut single and it was the song that got her noticed by both the media and the public. It's a dig a two-faced people and went in straight at number one in her home country Canada.
The music video first introduced us to Avril and it's no wonder we all fell in love with her. She looks like she's so much fun to hang out with; especially when she's causing havoc and 'crashing' a shopping mall!
2) Sk8er Boi
'Sk8er Boi' is our second favourite Avril Lavigne single to date!
The guitar-driven track was Avril's second ever song to be released and it won the 'Favourite Song' award at 2003's Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. It charted at number 8 in the UK and number 10 in America.
Like lots of her other videos, the music video for 'Sk8er Boi' looked like it was lots of fun to film. This time, we see Avril and her friends skating around town before hosting a gig on several car roofs!
1) My Happy Ending
'My Happy Ending' brings a happy ending to our list of favourite Avril singles!
It was Avril's second single from her second album 'Under My Skin' and we literally never get tired of listening to it. It's so good that it even went platinum in Brazil due its large amount of record sales there.
The track is about the meltdown of a relationship. It's a situation that most people find themselves in at some point in their life so it's no surprise that people related with the lyrics so much.
There's various settings in the music video and these include: a cinema, a park, the roof of a building, a shop and a bar. Clips are overlayed whilst Avril plays the piano and it's genuinely stunning!
There's so many other singles we nearly included in our list but there was only 10 places unfortunately. If we had to pick another two favourite Avril singles, we'd probably go for: 'I'm With You' and 'Nobody's Home'.
Avril is set to release two new singles later this year. Her next single in Asia will be the electronic dance track 'Hello Kitty' whereas her next single elsewhere will be the incredible ballad 'Give You What You Like'.
She's currently touring across the world and will also be joining Backstreet Boys at their American shows later this year. You can find out exactly where Avril will be going here.
