Official UK Top 40 Chart Round-up: 12th August 2013
It’s Monday which can only mean one thing; this week’s official UK top 40 chart was revealed last night!
So who’s number one this week? Did anyone manage to take the crown from Avicii and his summer anthem ‘Wake Me Up’?Starting off at 40, Kanye West was down three places with ‘Black Skinhead’. We saw Le Youth make his top 40 debut with ‘Cool’ at number 35 and there was also a new entry this week from Kings of Leon. The American rockers entered the chart at 31 with their brand new single ‘Wait For Me.’
Justin Timberlake danced his way up to number 29 this week with ‘Take Back The Night’ and Imagine Dragons moved up seven places to number 23 with ‘It’s Time’. It seems Selena Gomez’s fans may have already ‘been and got’ her new single though as ‘Come & Get It’ fell down seven places to number 21.
Kicking off the top 20, electronic duo Disclosure are up eight places with their new single ‘F For You’. Of Monsters and Men spend their 52nd week in the chart with ‘Little Talks’ at number 19 and Arctic Monkeys are a non-mover at number 15 with ‘Do I Wanna Know’. At number 11, Naughty Boy and Sam Smith finally fall from the top 10 with their track ‘La La La’.
Here’s where it starts to get exciting! Who made the all-important top 10?
10. Icona Pop - I Love It (feat. Charli XCX)
Swedish duo Icona Pop were down four places to number 10 this week with their hit single ‘I Love It’. The song’s always on the radio and being played in clubs so it’s no surprise to us that it’s still doing so well, people certainly do ‘love it!’
9. One Direction - Best Song Ever
Despite its title, One Direction’s latest track ‘Best Song Ever’ still hasn’t made it to number one. It peaked at number 2 but it's spending its third week in the chart at number 9 this week. The song will however be released on CD next week and it’ll feature in the band’s movie later this month so who knows? It still has potential to rise up the charts!
8. Calvin Harris - Thinking About You (feat. Ayah Marar)
Super producer Calvin Harris was up one place to number 8 this week with his new track ‘Thinking About You.’ After its chart positioning last week, it was revealed that Calvin is the first person to have nine top 10 singles from one album in the UK ever! Impressive right? We can see this one sticking around in the charts for a while!
7. Jay Z - Holy Grail (feat. Justin Timberlake)
When Jay Z and Justin Timberlake come together to make a record, it’s pretty much guaranteed that it’s going to be a hit. They’re two of the biggest names in the chart at the moment and following Justin’s hit ‘Suit & Tie’, the duo have now released ‘Holy Grail.’ The track is up four places this week to number 7.
6. John Newman - Love Me Again
John Newman needs to know now, know now, do you still love his song? It seems like everyone still does as ‘Love Me Again’ spends its sixth week in the charts this week at number seven. It’s been a pretty impressive chart run for a debut single so there’s be a lot of pressure for John Newman’s second single to be just as good!
5. Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines (feat. T.I. and Pharrell)
It’s clear that Robin Thicke definitely hasn’t got blurred lines when it comes to realising what’s going to be a hit and what’s not. His track ‘Blurred Lines’ is one of the best-selling singles this year and impressively, it’s still at number 5 after eleven weeks!
4. Lana Del Rey vs Cedric Gervais - Summertime Sadness (Remix)
When French DJ and producer Cedric Gervais released his remix of Lana Del Rey’s ‘Summertime Sadness’, we don’t think even he expected the success that has come from it. The original version of the track featured on Lana’s album ‘Born To Die’ last year and the now the remix has proven a hit as it's this week’s number four in the chart!
3. Tinie Tempah - Trampoline (feat. 2 Chainz)
Tinie Tempah bounced back into the charts this week with his new single ‘Trampoline’. It arguably has some of the worst lyrics heard in a song for a long time but that didn’t stop it from making it to number 3 in the chart. The song features rapper 2Chainz and it’s this week’s second highest new entry!
2. Avicii - Wake Me Up
After spending three weeks at number one, Avicii has dropped to number 2 this week with his massive hit ‘Wake Me Up.’ The song features vocals from Aloe Blacc and it made it to number one in 40 different countries thanks to its fusion of country and dance music. We can’t see this fading from the charts any time soon!
1. Miley Cyrus - We Can’t Stop
Miley Cyrus stormed to the top of this week’s chart entering straight at number one with her new single ‘We Can’t Stop.’ It’s her first UK number one single and the first of her tracks to make it into the UK top 10 too. So how exactly did she manage it?
The song itself is super-catchy but most people have spoke about the single because of its controversial music video. Straying away from Disney and trying to prove that she’s no longer ‘Hannah Montana’, Miley is seen sexing it up by ‘twerking’ and getting drunk at a house party.
We’re looking forward to seeing how next week’s chart will shapes up. There’s set to be high new entries from The Wanted and Ellie Goulding but will they manage to take Miley's crown? Only time will tell; we'll find out this time next week!
