Katy Perry Releases Lyric Video For New Single ‘Roar’

Katy Perry has unveiled the official lyric video for her brand new single ‘Roar’ to coincide with the release of the song!

The video shows the ‘Part of Me’ singer use emoticons to recite the lyrics of her new track and we’ve got to say, it’s a pretty cool idea. We’re gonna take a wild guess and say that Apple love the lyric video! How could they not?

The conversation in the video is displayed on an iPhone screen and there’s lots of shots of Katy using her iPhone too. Talk about great promotion for the company!

‘Roar’ is the lead single from Katy’s forthcoming album ‘Prism’ and the track itself is a self-powering anthem that’s already dominating the charts. Comparing it to Katy’s previous singles, we’d say that lyrically it’s most like ‘Firework’ as both songs are about finding strength within yourself and being proud of who you are.

Despite only being released on Monday, the single has already clawed its way up to number one in over 20 different countries and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop there.

Katy does however now face new competition from Lady Gaga. That’s right, we now have a new chart battle on our hands and this time, it’s between two of the biggest princesses of pop!

Lady Gaga’s new single ‘Applause’ was originally set for release next week but when the song leaked online, Gaga decided to release it a week early for all of her little ‘monsters.’

At the moment, ‘Roar’ is still in the lead but will that still be the case on Sunday? Gaga’s track was technically released hours later so it still has time to catch-up on sales. Only time will tell.

Katy will perform her new single live for the first time at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. The award ceremony will take place on the 25th August and we can’t wait to see what tricks she pulls out for the performance!

Whilst ‘Roar’ is currently on sale in most countries, us fans in the UK will have to wait until the 8th September to download the track. Katy’s new album ‘Prism’ will follow on the 22nd October.

Do you think 'Roar' will win this week’s chart battle?
