A Guide To American Horror Story – What Will Happen In Season Four?

American Horror Story is one of our favourite TV shows and it has just celebrated its most successful season yet!

Season three of the show received the highest ratings to date and in honour, we've decided to take a look back at the show's history and take a look forward into the show's future.

One of the interesting things about American Horror Story is the fact that each season is completely different. Each series is a new story with new characters but a lot of the same cast.

We'll be honest, it took a while to get our heads around that at first! But once you've put that aside and realise that they're playing completely different characters, it all makes sense.

Be prepared for lots of thrills and scares!

The show can be genuinely creepy at times but it's so addictive and once you've started watching it, you won't be able to stop. That's one of the scary things about it, how hooked you'll get.

American Horror Story has recently been commissioned for a fourth series but what were the first three seasons about? Don't worry, we won't give away any massive spoilers if you haven't watched it yet!

Season One (American Horror Story: Murder House)

The first season of American Horror Story focuses around a haunted house.

After main character Vivian walks in on her husband Ben having an affair, they decide to move to a new home in Los Angeles for a fresh start with their daughter Violet.

The reason the new house is so cheap though is because it has a history of murder and the ghosts of anyone who's ever died there haunt the property. There's lots of twists and it really is a fantastic story!

It takes a few episodes to kick in but we'd definitely recommend that you stick with it.

Season Two (American Horror Story: Asylum)

The second season of American Horror Story is set at a mental asylum in 1964.

Dark secrets are being hidden and supernatural forces at work. When patients start disappearing, questions are raised and Sister Mary Eunice who helps run the institute may not be who she used to be anymore.

There's a link to the present day too where serial killer 'Bloody Face' is on the loose. Adam Levine from Maroon 5 makes a cameo appearance and the story really does come to a satisfying end.

Out of all three seasons of the show, this has to be our favourite!

Season Three (American Horror Story: Coven)

The third season of American Horror Story is set at an academy for young witches.

When Zoe Benson unintentionally murders her boyfriend, she realises that she's a witch and is sent to a coven. The school teaches young witches to practice their special powers in order to protect themselves.

Hunters are out to get them and there's a historical rivalry between the Salem witches and the Voodoo practitioners of New Orleans. Whilst mastering the supernatural, this season also explores very real issues.

Parts of the story also remind us of Mean Girls but with witches, what a perfect combination!

American Horror Story airs on FX in America and on Fox TV over here in the UK.

The fourth season of the show will premiere later this year and it will see the return of the fantastic Jessica Lange. Other actors invited back include: Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Frances Conroy.

It will be set in the 1950's and co-creator Ryan Murphy teased: "If you look historically what happened in the year 1950, there’s some more clues in that year. It’s a period piece. We try and do the opposite of what we’ve done before. Jessica Lange has already started practicing her German accent so I’m very excited!

Ok, we may be just a little bit too excited, we literally can't wait for the fourth series to start!

Do you watch American Horror Story? If you do, what do you think will happen in the fourth season of the show?
